Special Education and the IEP: A Parent Sponsored IEP Workshop
This workshop will address what parents can do to prepare for their child’s IEP team meeting, what they should do at the meeting, and their options should the IEP team be unable to reach an agreement regarding classroom placement and/or related services. The featured speaker will be Kim Karelis of Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley, a special education attorney. He will be available to answer questions that parents my have regarding their unique needs. All parents are welcome to attend free of charge!

“Making A Difference In The Lives of Children” Celebration

The Wiley Center will host their 16th Annual “Making a Difference in the Lives of Children” gala at the Sheraton Gateway hotel. The purpose of this celebration is to acknowledge grandparent caregivers who selflessly raise their grandchildren in the absence of their parents. Additionally we recognize others in the nonprofit and/or corporate sector who are also making a difference in our community.
In 2011 we presented our “Making a Difference Award” to Holly Robinson Peete, founder of the HollyRod Foundation, Lady Mae L. Blake, First Lady of West Angeles Church of God in Christ and Leah Pump, founder of the LadyLike Foundation.

The National Alumnae Association Spelman College, Los Angeles (NAASC-LA) Chapter will host their 18th Annual Sisters Awards Rhapsody in Art and Jazz Brunch. Dr. Wiley has been selected to receive their 2012 Sisters Award. Also to be honored are KNBC reporter Beverly White, and Dorthy Le Blanc a Spelman Alumna. On that day the women of NAASC-LA will pay tribute to these women who not only positively impact the African American community but the at -large as a highly respected speech pathologist who has helped shape and develop the communication skils of thousands of children.
