Drama Kings and Queens Summer Drama Intensive Program

The Los Angeles Speech and Language Therapy center is proud to present Drama Kings and Queens summer drama intensive program 2011. This 6 week program is opened to children ages 5-15 and will take place June 27-August 5, 2011. The mission of this intensive program is to expose children to the diverse world of theatre in a nurturing and safe environment while honoring and exalting the unique and often times overlooked talents of children with special needs. Campers will be involved in a team effort to create, write, design and implement an original musical that will be performed for friends and family at the end of the 6 week program. Each day campers will be exposed to theatrical history, acting, dancing, singing, set creation, and costume/makeup design. This program is designed to develop or increase language skills, social interaction skills, self awareness, emotional communication, imaginative play and self confidence. The ideal camper should be able to effectively communicate in verbal or non-verbal means, able to follow simple directions in an age-appropriate fashion, and does not have any violent behaviors. All levels of communication will be considered.

The program will be lead by speech-language pathologist Ashley Wiley MA, CF-SLP who has received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dramatic Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Masters of Arts in Communicative Disorders and Sciences from San José State University. She has dedicated her career to combining the arts with speech therapy in order to increase the abilities of children with special needs. She has taught drama programs here at Los Angeles Speech and Language Therapy Center for the past 4 years and has had extensive experience with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome and Spanish speakers. For more information and screening please contact the main office (310) 649-6199. Space is limited and consideration will be given on a first come first serve basis.
